The Market, the Train Strike, the Laundromat...

Market day in Beaune - colorful, vibrant, packed, and the social hub of the Côte de Beaune every week. I see more people I know at this market than I do at the PSU Farmer's Market in Portland (hell, I probably know more people here, to be honest!) Whether it's running into friends from the US who are here on vacation, or assorted local vignerons and restaurateurs or ex-pat friends, it's always a good day at the Saturday market in Beaune.

The proverbial Chicken, WITHOUT it's head cut off...

The proverbial Chicken, WITHOUT it's head cut off...

A great discovery this week was the wild asparagus - something I've never run across before. It apparently is only around for a week every year. It was on two restaurant menus here in Beaune this week - glad I hit the right week this year!

One of the couples in our client group was scheduled to arrive this afternoon, but of course the on-again off-again train strike threw a monkey wrench into the works. They finally got here a few hours later than expected, but all's good. The rest of the crew arrives in Dijon tomorrow (fingers crossed!), and then we'll be off and running for a week-long deep dive into the private, hidden world of Burgundy. And we may eat and drink a bit along the way...

In the meantime, I had the pleasure of patronizing the laundromat in Beaune this afternoon. I'm happy to report that I now have enough clean socks and other vital garments to get me through the next couple of weeks. All the instructions in the laundromat were in English - so apparently the locals are not the target market. They certainly would not know what to do with a dryer, which are virtually non-existent in French homes that I've seen...

Johannes and Thierry Violot-Gullemard, the Bad Boys of Pommard

Johannes and Thierry Violot-Gullemard, the Bad Boys of Pommard

I've had a little time to start looking through some of the footage we shot this week - there's a lot of great stuff. I'm really excited, and can start to see the film coming together. I love this pic of Thierry Violot-Guillemard and his son Johannes - it's a still we grabbed from some of the b-roll footage shot after their interview last Tuesday.

Off to dinner in Beaune tonight with friends, and then the tour cranks up tomorrow. Here we go!
